Experienced new driver trying to go to work but can't

When you go to orientation it would seem that at least you would get the paper works to fill out for direct deposit , insurance benefits, and W-4 forms to fill out but everything when it comes to driving and no paper works for benefits and you try to fill out but you can not get through. And once the drivers to do all the all the paper works filling out why people are being paid but they don't do the work and the driver can't get a load because they are not even in the system.

Do the drivers put themselves into the system also so as to get a load? They are experienced drivers not trainees or students.

Scam company! They are a self-insured company that is unethical in the way they do business! They had a student driver run over the back of my trailer at a truck stop and ruined one of the beand new cargo trailers on my trailer plus blew the tired out on my flatbed trailet and bent the rear axke. Never got one penny for all my loss and it put me out of business! This self insured *** should be against the law! They were rude and played so many games!

10/18/2015: I am an OTR owner. Operator driving for another company. At about 10:20 AM Swift driver of trailer no. 547323 as we attempted passing on the right (he was going slow in the middle lane) began to move right, pressing us against the wall, nearly causing an accident.

Swift is for want to be drivers

i have 12 yrs otr exp. been out of trucking for a while and decided i wanted to do it one more time.

swift tells me i have to go to school and then out 4 weeks with mentor, ok i will agree they did not have computer systems in trucks when i drove, so learning about that i can handle but going to a dirt parking lot and backing come on. then go with a mentor that has 2 yrs driving exp. come on , and you expect me to sleep while he is driving. *** i have forgot more than the mentor will ever know.

after being back out for a while ,i can tell you trucking has gone to *** !!! think i will forget about going back driving and remember the good old days, when a driver was well respected on the road and *** sure courteous !

Is the mentor the problem or you? When you speak of the "good ol days" do you mean when drivers drove hopped up on pills caffeine, and HOS was a suggestion?

Holding a steering wheel is not rocket science. Trip planning, safely and courtesy, and electronic logging is the industry of today. I certainly am glad you never entered my truck with your superior attitude.

You may be more suited as a wal mart greeter. Best of luck.

OK your a *** ***. Just like nh said you lied about a lot. I was told by my recruiter that it's three weeks training(unpaid) three days orientation(paid) 200 hours BTW {9.50 driving hours; 7.25 on duty not driving). I went in January 2015 1 week in atl. Then a 2 day bus ride to Utah. Spent 2 weeks there. Now I'm on the truck with my mentor and he's awesome. I have 20 hours left till I upgrade to my own truck. And they are starting me @ .33cpm plus 2 days home after my upgrade. Don't listen to all the negative sht about a company. If they help you get your cdl go. Get and if you don't like the company then find a new one. You got your cdl can work for anyone.

So basically you out with mentor 3 weeks

Guest

Been waiting for a mentor more than a week after orientation. Swift has not contacted me at all.

Guest

Correction you can not work for anyone after you get your cdl everyone wants at least one year minimum of experience also .33 per miles go regional they pay .41 cent also if you get a dedicated route with central refrigerator division part of swift you can get 22hr like I get running kraft so y you are bragging get a hold of a recruiting and see how you can make more with the company I have been with the company 9 mouths was a Lil rough at first but really killing with kindness works better then yelling seriously.

HOLD TIME

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have called Swift Transportation company on several occasions to receive a fax number, only a fax number, and the switch board operator insinuated that they do not know their own fax number, AMAZING! I would like to know what are the qualification to receive a job for this company. Maybe a high school drop out. Now, I decided to continue to call into call center to get a fax number. I decided to take a day off of work to do just this for today. Sad, to have people in the world that are useless, helpless, and care nothing or little for their job and the company which he or she works.

Same problem I'm having. Every time I call Swift, I'm put on hold listening to the same darn loop of info, for no less than 20 to 30 minutes.

I end up having to hang up... who on earth has the time to wait that long for simple info that should be answered in a phone by a human being, in less than a few minutes. iHow does this company manage to stay in business?

All I want is a dang fax number, and the contact info for their claims department, after a truck driver working for Swift hit my car on the highway. I'm sorry, but your customer service is DEPLORABLE!!!!

My husband drove for swift for almost 4 years both as a company driver and lease operator. Took ALL the loads he was given (even the *** ones) and was never late for the duration of his employment with swift.

Very rarely did we go home ( I ride with him) not because we didn't want to go home but because we couldn't afford to go home. You know how the saying goes "if the wheels aren't turning you're not earning". For 7 months straight we didn't get a paycheck and only made enough to make truck payment and other fees. Living off of $100 advances every week.

My husband is a very safe driver. Swifts behavior causes good drivers to leave.

We had to turn in the truck we were leasing through them and walk away because we couldn't afford to live on no paycheck. Can't pay the bills like that.

Guest

Also the reason why some live out of their trucks is because they don't do the math when becoming a owner opp me personally would buy a truck out right then finance thru them just say they are greedy

Guest

If it settles it settles I think the company took on way to much with the merge and they still don't have it organized all I know is I make good money with them but I know who to speak with that counts.

Guest

Drivers are treated worse than Jerry Moyes' dogs.

A swift truck pulling a dollar general trlr no. 11148 on I10 just west of Tallahassee, Florida just tried to run my mother off of the road by cutting over too soon. Before that he got up behind her and flashed his lights to get her go faster, and she was in the right lane. She couldn't get the truck no. because of watching the road and your *** wreck less driver.

maybe your mom should learn how to drive, she obviously shouldn't be on the interstate if a swift truck is passing her. this is just another example of an old woman screwing up the roads for everyone else.

glad she didn't get the truck number. her stupidity shouldn't effect the livelyhood of another human being.

Review in Transportation and Delivery category from Pecos, Texas

Been driving for Swift almost a year....I have worked as a driver in the past, and tie is hands down the worst company yet. Fleet trucks are poorly maintained, and it can often take 3 or more days for routine items like tires or brakes at the terminals. Many of the loads I am assigned are already late when I get them--then they put me on a fuel route that takes me 30 minutes or more out of my way just so they can use a TA or Petro..since we are paid zip code to zip code we get paid nothing for these extra miles. Company has been very poor about paying me for detention or driver loading. I drive the maximum hours allowed and take minimum breaks, yet at the end of the week my paycheck is dollar for dollar less than what I made in the 1990's. When I calculate hours worked with what Swift pays I am well under minimum wage. In the past year I have not made it home for home time once when I was scheduled. Almost every week I am doing a 34 hour reset in my truck...unpaid of course!...just 34 hours waiting in my truck with nothing to do... Many times there is no TV or Internet available, so a good book is a must. Swift does not want drivers to idle trucks, and some trucks have idle shutdowns that can't be bypassed...so if you are unlucky enough to be stuck in extreme heat or cold during your rest breaks you will not be getting much sleep. Sometimes you need job, and when you get close to 60 like me there aren't always a lot of options, but I would strongly discourage anyone from becoming an OTR driver-- especially with Swift

Ticked off Swift Driver

After being hired and through training I finally got on the road on my own. After a few weeks of being OTR they put me as a local driver for Walmart in Oplekia, AL and was only getting runs to AL and GA very small mileage. They told me I would only be helping for the weekend since Walmart needed the help and come Monday they still have me doing runs. I signed up for OTR not local or Dedicated runs. I have bills to pay and low mileage isn't helping. Im being forced to run local loads and I am not happy. DONT WORK FOR SWIFT! God bless all the drivers going through this situation.

Swift Transportation - Working Conditions Review from Phoenix, Arizona

I see many postings from drivers and being employed at the corporate office can confirm what the drivers are stating. I am in customer service and the office personnel are mistreated as well. Swift does not care about anyone that has an opinion or is not willing to go along with their bad decisions. The 4x4 Customer Service Reps are scheduled to work 2007.5 hours a year. They work 4 days on and then have 4 days off,11 scheduled hours a day. Then there are the 5 day a week reps that are scheduled 40 hours a week which comes to 2080 a year. We are same pay grade level. On top of this the 4x4 team informs MGMT that they need more help on the weekends so now the team that already works more hours is mandated to 40 more hours a year. MGMT has no clue what goes on here and this is corporate! The mantra in Phoenix is, IT IS WHAT IT IS. There are no solutions and no one wants to ruffle the complacent system to bring about the changes that are needed. I find it funny when I see reviews that Swift is such a great place to work and then it states FORMER EMPLOYEE! If it is such a great company, why are you not working for them any longer? It is like being in high school all over again. No seasoned rep or anyone with self esteem will be able to work here very long. Only the ignorant, self loathing will survive. Wait, people who do not want to work for their pay and blow smoke up upper MGMT bottoms, they are fine but in my eyes pitiful! People are promoted on who they know or are flirting with at the time, not on job performance. In the past 2 months their have been 2 heart related hospitalizations and 1 stroke. These are just the ones we know of as well. This is a horrible place to work. Anyone with a great work ethic will be taking up for the slackers and MGMT does not care that the majority of their workers simply do not work for the money the are given. Swift just hires more people to pick up the slack because MGMT has no control to make the slackers work. THEY SIMPLE DO NOT CARE!

If you have to do resets your not planning your trips properly or your staying on duty for more then 10 minutes at shipper/ receiver or even fuelling. Right now I am hourly but will be switched back to mileage pay because I won't be hauling central refrigerator anymore but you should get a hold of the central division and haul reefer pays way better so good luck you have to not play their game and just follow dot rules really pretrip 15 min also safety checks can be don't off duty so can post trips but those should only be about 5 minutes ok man I am not looking forward to being mileage pay again dam

You are a retard. 34/hour reset is a must.

Try driving 3200 miles a week.

If you can do that every week without a reset your a super trucker. You dumb sob.
