Swift lies

I drove for swift from march 08 till oct 09. I never had a log violation or ticket accident was never late on a load. I was called into the memphis terminal and was told that the terminal was laying 75 drivers due to lack of freight, and that I was eligable for unemployment benefits. well I got home to mobile al. and the next monday I call tennessee and applied for unemployment, I recieved 2 chacks and then was told that they said I was fired due to log violations. my wife got sick and went into the hospital for congested heart failure, kidney desiease. things got better and I started looking for work it was now 2010. I applied for work for 3 companies and was turned down. my wife got sick again and has been in the hospital on 3 diffrent occasions and now had her legs amputated. I have applied for work in a diffrent feild, i contacted hireright and had then send me my report, on it was a statement that I had been involoved in an accident killing someone and both vehicles had to be towed, I am in the process of suing swift and hireright for slander, back pay and anything else I can get.

I used to work for Swift and they are a bunch of *** Got fired for not taking a hazmat WITHOUT endorsement and then went to renew my CDL, that I got through them, today and found out it was non-renewable because Swift's instructers we're never qualified in the first place!

I call b.s., I have been working for Swift almost 6 years and IMO, they are the best company out here. Granted, they did lay some people off back then, but it was people that was lazy or didn't perform their job well, I'm betting you fall into one of these categories. Sucks to be you.

Ex Swift driver

I was employed by Swift and began new driver training March 2007. At the time I was on probation for a felony. I included my felony on my job application with Swift. I also spoke to my recruiter about how they could work around my probation. The recruiter said it should not be an issue. Prior to leaving the state to attend training I had to provide my probation with the details of where I would be staying as well as the reason for my stay. My probation officer verified with the Swift recruiter that I would attend training in Syracuse New York from 3/27/07-4/24/07. After completion of my training I was sent home and told to wait for my mentor to contact me. I waited a few weeks and finally received a call from Swift that a mentor should be contacting me in a few days.

When I asked where I would be going, the recruiter said they would not know until the day the mentor would pick me up. Well that would be a problem due to the fact that I needed to ask probation permission at least 7 days in advance to leave the state. The recruiter said that was the best they could do. The recruiter also mentioned that it would be hard to say what route I would be taking until the last minute for all of my on the road training. None of this was explained to me when I was hired. This was my first company I applied to right out of driving school. Swift gave me the impression they would have no problem accommodating my probation terms. Well my probation officer was not comfortable with giving me a pass with such limited amount of time to verify my itinerary.

Long story short I had to stop working for Swift due to the short notice of scheduling. I was not aware till recently that Swift listed me as falsifying my job application. I applied for a job recently at CR England, due to the fact that I completed my probation. I would have had the opportunity to take a job there but Swift listed on DAC and DriverFacts that I lied about having a felony on my application. I did not lie and Swift new about my history. I have tried calling and writing Swift about this situation. I am not sure if I will need a lawyer to get this fixed. I really do not have money for a lawyer, but at the same time I need to have my record cleared.

Why would Swift do this?

Swift team would comply with my probation but after I had an interview with security team. They would set up where to go but after two days swift denied my application. I feel that Swift violated my rights under the EOE Act., ADA.,....

Wow Wolf, I am ultra impressed at your ability to get rehired at Swift 5 TIMES??? And you have been a safe driver for 16 years?

Where else have you worked that could not keep you happy enough to keep you away from Mommy Swift? Here's the thing, you are right that trucking is a lifestyle, to a point. I've only been OTR for 2 yrs and all of it with Swift. This is just an adventure for me.

I am retired from another career and single and just looking to travel before I settle into something else to stay busy. That being said, It seems to me that there is quite a diverse crowd of people that drive and for different reasons. And I believe that everyone deserves a chance at it no matter their particular background. What I squarely don't believe in is the high number of employees at Swift that actually believe they have some kind of authority over drivers.

I only wish that I had a way to let the newer drivers see just how you can manipulate the corporate system to your advantage because Swift has such substandard employees/management trying to run the offices while the drivers make their jobs possible. The very notion that Swift is a "company that cares" about it's drivers and that even a medium percentage of drivers "buy" that *** is a testimony to your idiotic rant. Make no mistake "Wolf" while holding any employment right now in these times is admirable for anyone, Swift upper management is rolling the bones all the way to the bank and they could not care less whether you come or go. It's a corporate business, Next time you are at a fly infested terminal, take a very good look around, take some time and just quietly watch the DMs and how much time they actually sit and do work.

Try calling in after 5 pm MST or before 6:30 am MST and see how long you are on hold. Management sends out all of the positive messages through qualcomm that they can so they can continually justify their jobs. In my short tenure I have learned one BIG thing, Do everything you can yourself and DO NOT rely on a DM for anything. I rarely talk to my DM and when they contact me about something *** like Idle Time I actually hang up on them.

And my reason is simple, I may just be a Driver, but I also have dignity. Swift does not care about your dignity, only your productive potential is what they are concerned with. I don't adhere to what a DM wants so he/she can win the contest on the board at the terminal. I've had the Terminal Manager "talk" my ear off about performance and yet I am still working and getting the miles "I" want.

There is no reason to bump fists with anyone at Swift, just follow DOT rules to the letter and the "Swift" can't touch you. Just ask around, but not at the terminal, thats where people like you hang out.

Guest

What idiots...really trucking isnt a nine to five job its a lifestyle...as for you *** that get *** on with your DAC you did something to deserve it...i have personally worked for Swift 5 diffrent times and since i am a good driver...no accidents...no tickets...and no service failures i keep getting rehired...have been a driver for the last 16 years and found swift to be very accomidating to my needs so if you have a problem like this with Swift no doubt your going to have them with any other company...idiots stay off the roads where the best of us make a living

Guest

Swift is a full of *** company all together.. They really don't care about there drivers

Guest

heather they deffinatly strand there drivers cant go into too much detail for im still there but deff thanks for the heads up on the dac report will be sure to look at that as soon as i terminate my employment there wish i never went there whaT A NIGHT MARE

Guest

It's not only Swift, but other carriers screw with people's DACs as well. It's more malice than being truthful.

They want to *** out of getting another job in the industry.

I will probably be posting my own nightmare experience with Swift, Werner and Driver Solutions very soon. I have been on the Truckers Forum for almost a year now hashing my epic sagas out with doubting thomases (though that's a forum more for employed drivers - there are sections where you report a bad company/experience which is what I did).

Guest

you were lucky that they even brought you on. the recruiter was getting their stats up. once you show up they get paid and can care less about which is the whole company management.

Guest

be glad you didnt get on at swift. they strand their drivers.

I agree with Al that there is no way to know where your load is going till you pick it up. Swift evidently has a history of putting anything and everything they possibly can on you dac, regarless of whether it is true or not.

Guest

Obviously you know NOTHING about the trucking industry. Expecting to know a week in advance where you're going??

You won't know usually until you pick up the load.

I wasn't aware that you get probation for stupidity - I thought they still shot people for that.

Worse Swift mentor

How do u deal w/ a mentor that puts u down, constantly yelling @ u instead of talking to u, calling u names, and threatening u. My husband has been dealing w/ this for almost 6 weeks which is almost over. But I don't this guy should not be a mentor. He has talked to his driving manager about this situation was resolved for a few days I guess. But now he is worse complete A******. Are all Swift mentors or all mentors like this? He basically is treating my husband like *** Anyone else had problems w/ their mentors?

I am a Swift mentor myself and I will be the first to tell you that are way too many crummy mentors out there. What I'd like to remind everyone is that it is not a Swift specific issue but plagues all trucking companies alike.

Years ago when I did my training (with Werner) I hated every minute of it and actually became depressed and miserable as a result of my horrible trainer. That is half of my reason for deciding to become a mentor myself.

I am patient and courteous with my student no matter how many times he makes the same silly mistakes because I know that if he were a good driver he wouldn't need a trainer in the first place. There actually are a few of us friendly/professional mentors out there but sadly (at all companies) we are the exception.

We need more mentor like you.

Guest

I went through 2 mentors before I was done. They will tell you "saftey first"!

But that is a lie, all they care about is making money off you. You just another log-book to them.

Guest

Im in the same boat. I have a mentor that is an *** hole.

Im putting up with it because he might lie and tell the driver manager that im doing horrible and wont make it as a swift driver. And Swift will just believe his lieing *** and send me home.

Alot of swift mentors are like this. Once I complete my training and get my own truck,im going to write a very negative evaluation of the training experience

Guest

What you've got here is a reverse mentor. The challenge for you is to figure out what you're learning from that mentor's actions/behavior. That is, what can you take away from these negative interactions that can have a positive impact on your own actions?

Swift Transportation F's You In The A!!

Swift Transportation F's You In The A!! Bring Lube And Learn To Swallow! If you are wanting to learn to drive go somewhere else. I was a driver with swift! Key word was after sitting in a blizzard for 1 week in michigan not allowed to idle, they sent me to denver they made me sit 9 days then sent me to dallas, sat for 4 days, then too laredo sat for 11 daysand so on. They play games on there drivers if they send you a preplan on qualcom for relocation move " move to next town 1 mile" they do this constantly they do not have to pay you for it. except your mileage pay so max .42 cents to do this instead of layover pay if you deny it you just got *** in The *** at least you could have made .42 cents. If You though about working for them don't!! I got no pay for 6 weeks while they played that Bull *** on me. I finally had to put in for home time! got home 9 days late. Turned my keys in and quit! Try too pay a mortgage and take care of 3 kids on no pay! Work for swift! GET *** in the ***

Hey Jerry blow smoke up somebody elses *** I worked for your sweat shop for 5 weeks and it was a nightmare.Everything your reading is true they don't give a *** about there employees just saving money. They don't let you idle the trucks but alot of drivers figure out how to afro engineer around that.Out of my 5 $300 checks 2 were paid right. And it wasn't my lack of effort you don't get to pick and choose your calls. You can turn them down but then you have bigger problems. All the calls I did get were either already late or impossible to make the deadline so I had log violations almost daily.I had 4 on a run from Savannah to Houston so I could make it on time. One time on a run from OKC to NM it took me 12 hours to get permission to get fuel because they don't like you fillin up were there not gettin a deal.I had to call off road twice and get 2 50 gal permission slips so I could get to a fuel stop in Texas they would let me fill up at.And the alot of the driver managers are useless they never return messages or they take hours.I would get a preplan, except it and wait over an hour or better to get authorization to go.Or I would have to call and hope they answered the phone to get it.If your a new driver go anywhere else but swift it is the worst job I have had in 20 years.Go to Werner most of my classmates went there and they actually treat there drivers good compared to swift.

Guest

Wow! All the things that's been said here about Swift Transport. My husband was thinking about driving for this company and after reading complaint after complaint and things about other men sleeping together and how he won't get his pay I'm thinking he needs to find another company to work for. Maybe that's why someone said the f's you in the A!

Because they literly do that to there drivers. (not to say that it happened to this feller here) but I don't want my hinny being bent over and f'ed.

And I do want him to come home when he was promised not to be sent off to another Location just to sit there hours on end. Dang never knew

Swift would do that to people. That's crazy!!:*

i just curious i am a military vet and i am going to work with swift, i was a truck driver in the army and deployed to afghanstan, is all this whining and crying have any point to it cause according to jennifer of the united states trck driving school whom got great reviews with the bbb andif the bbb gave united states truck driving school a A+ then i got to trust the judgement of jennifer when she says swift is a great job, ut i delt wit worse in the army driving 12 to 14 hour straight in hostile enviroment, ad pay in Army is *** compared to making 40k a year, and 25 cents a mile and after 55 cents a mile thats about 2000 a week. so stop your whining and cying over *** ***

Guest

That's right Jerry we **** up all our driver's....remember when I came over to your mansion in february and we spooned, see you on monday Jerry! As the COO of Swift Transportation I'd like to say thank you for working for Swift, We are 'Best In Class' and we only pay .26 cents a mile to rookies because they dont know how the **** to drive. Ya'll can kiss mine and Jerry's ***, because were not going anywhere ***.

Guest

6 weeks without pay is impossible. I'd guess you're just not commercial driver material.

No shame in that.

Your whining and blame shifting is shameful though. javascript:ac_smilie(':cry')

swift always plays games i say their trucks are not even safe more break downs in a year of over the road with them then my husband worked terminals were rude and people act like drivers are low lifes but without them no frieght would move look how many long term employees they have most drivers are gone in the first 2 years like mine on to something much better a company that cares about drivers

Guest

Every company has its bad, especially when there are too many trucks and not enough freight. You can go to any company and you will get the same.

You make the job what you make it....sorry but I can't believe you didnt get ANY pay for 6 weeks?

Hard to believe. Good luck finding the perfect company..you won't.

Getting ripped off

I've been driving for Swift for a few monbths. I've kept receipts of all the trips I have scanned, and again payroll has screwed my pay up again. For five trips I have a grand total of 99 dollars. Can't pay mortage, sitting stressing waiting for my driver manager to come in, and yeah, I'm due back in my truck. Personally I can give a *** about their truck and this job. Thanks swift. And yeah, I checked on line to see if the trips went through, they did. Swift made sure they got their money, *** the driver.

I worked for Swift for 2 years, then went and got a job with a decient company. The main thing I have to say with Swift,is COPIES CPOIES and CPOIES. I had a laptop, and kept all my logs on there. There are a few programs that will print a Swift log out and they do accept them. The thing is you have to have a printer and print them out daily so you can sign them for the DOT. The other reason to but a $50.00 printer is that it scans into you drives. You can keep a copy of the BOL, signed, and all your other papers.

I quit due to low miles, and when I was laid off for a few weeks a year later, Swift tried to stop my unemployment because they tried to claim I quit to take car of my sick wife. My wife was never sick, but I had kept my resignation letter, (Which Swift says isn't necessary) and my logs to show how long I sit with no pay, and all my commucation with my DM. I didn't use Quall-com, I used E-Mail so I had a record I could lay my hands on.

If you had copies of the paperwork you gave them, then they have little argument. Just how Phoenix "looses" your logs all the time. Send your logs in a seperate envolope and mark it "Logs, Date **/**/** to **/**/**". That way your DM can pull up the scaned envolope and see you did turn in your logs. My FM thold me that trick.

I'm retired now, but there are good companies out there that will be happy to have you. I had a real nice little run from Denver here, to L.A. and back. Made about $1700.00 a week.

to upset driver; why ask why brother? swift is known for getting all they can get and hauling *** with it; sorry you got screwed but you should have done some investigating before hand; to sum it up no over the road company should have blowed that much smoke up your *** knowing you were on active felony probation and you not allowed to leave the state without permission; *** man what did you think was going to happen on every load out of state?

Guest

I can identify with that situation. I don't drive for Swift, though.Right now I'm

fresh out of work.Company equiptment that

is too sensitive is NO good to use.It sounded like the drivers truck was warning

about a RollOver Possibility. When that was

n't the case. Maybe the driver was traveling through the dips and bends in that stretch of road too fast for the truck

that was programmed for unsafe actions.I

don't think I would have fired the driver

if THAT was the case.BUT Swift Company Policy was Applied ,then Bye-Bye Driver(s).

That happens MORE Often than it should.

SWIFT- sit waiting in *** terminal

true true, when u work as a driver for swift you are nothing but an expendable number for corporate *** to bully you from an employment at will company, so whats the only guarantee when u work for swift, at some point you wont work for swift, even though this trade is honest respectable work swift ruins everything honest and respectful about it, i can not remember how many times dispatch or managers asked me to do something that was illegal and/or unsafe, alot of the main dispatchers have horrible attitudes even though they have all the resources, means, and capabilities to assist you they try to criticize and laugh in your face when your 2000 miles from home, makes you want to shoot them in the face :) i was employed by swift for 8 months they labeled me an at risk driver and terminated me for no apparent reason be careful of the scams with these notorious paid cdl training trucking companies, if the company you works for trains be careful they are a scam, swift offers on time service to the customer what they pay for, if that means jeopardizing your life and putting your license up for risk you are a pawn and a completely replaceable 1, they promise to be family oriented and also promise to give you the miles to "help you reach your financial goals" the problem is they do have the miles but not for you they know the cheapest route to move freight, if that means *** you outta your miles for 4 days u sit, swift claims i owe them money when they still owe me money for traveling to and from orientation, be carefull putting your money up front with promises of reimbursement that never follow through, all in all major scam, i know too many horror stories from friends experiences to myselfs, alot of the controversial aspects start at the schooling which is a 100% scam

Why do you think Swift hires only new drivers? Point and simple.

Any company that hires nobody but new drivers is doing so because it's profitable. I'd hate to see Swift's insurance bill. That's why they can bully you and cheat.

I had a nice dedicated run, but I only made about 530 miles a day.

(Salt Lake to Denver). I left to a smaller company, had a very good run to LA and Back to Denver, and made average of $1700.00 a week, home every 3rd or 4th day, and a real nice Kenworth 600T to drive. No "over speed" as the truck would do 77 MPH if you wanted. I kept it at 65 for fuel mileage, but it was nice to drive the speed limit if I wanted to.

I retired after 28 years total driving.

My first DM’s really kept me moving, but my last one couldn’t seem to do the job. Sad to say that Swift was so desperate for DM’s, they would hire anyone even with no experience.

She took the most productive fleet in Denver and made it dead last, and they still kept her. Gee, wonder why they have problems?

anyone with some good info on the trainers at swift ...send me a line any info on how long ill be waiting for trainer since i just finished orientation today...dobber6541@***.com

i was hoping to get trainer today .supposed to call compliance person tomorrow at richmond terminal to get driver code and trainer information ...hope i get going by friday

Guest

i just completed the the swift academy in millington tenn.and i just finished orientation today .except for the fact that i was hoping to get a trainer today and leave for the road ...i think the school was excellent .they throw alot at you in a short time but a little common sense and you can grasp it .and as for all the complaints about swift ...you can teach anyone to drive a truck ..but you gotta figure out how to be a good truck driver on your own...no onw can teach you that ...just be happy that your working at all and stop complaining

Patricia Qgl

I am curious, confused, If they are all of the bad things that i keep reading about why are they still operating?

How is the San Antonio, Tx school someone is trying to go there and i was wondering is it worth it.

SWIFT NOT QUALIFIED SCHOOL

I RECEIVED MY CDL THROUGH SWIFT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. AS OF APRIL OF THIS MONTH MY CDL WAS CANCELLED DUE TO AN INVESTIGATION THAT WAS CONDUCTED IN TENNESSE.

THEY DETERMINED THAT CDL'S THAT WERE ISSUED BY THIS SCHOOL AROUND THE TIME I GOT MY CDL WERE NOT VALID. I AM SO PISSED OFF BECAUSE NOW I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING JUST A CLASS D BECAUSE MY HOME STATE CANCELLED MY LICENSE AND THEN I HAVE TO TAKE MY CDL OVER AGAIN. THIS HAS CAUSED ME ALOT OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, LOST INCOME AND LOADS. WHAT IF I GOT PULLED OVER?

I WOULD HAVE LOST THE TRUCK, THE FREIGHT AND MY JOB. SWIFT IS TRULY THE *** OF THE INDUSTRY IN MY OPINION AND THEY CAN FORGET ABOUT THE TUITION MONEY, I'M SUEING.

Well I believe all trucking co are good and bad I drive for swift I've never been screwed over I get over 3000 miles a week and have no problems the complainers will get the *** trucks and no one is gonna get a brand new truck right out of school I've been driving 8 years you gotta pay your dues any where u go fact is the freight IS what matters so they and you should care about that ! In any huge company it's hard to get individual attention and some people do fall between the cracks they still have their school and have bought out over 9 different companies even one on Mexico so that makes them the largest trucking co in the US they must b doing something right. :p

I was promised 2500 to 3000.Columbus terminal.Has made sure I never got out of the east coast.I came on as a OTR driver. Not a local driver for northeast.Nor a regional driver.Corporate personal suggested As being a prior trainer/mentor for 6 years. To put in to be a Mentor for swift.I told them my dm,dl.Do not like me.Because I stand up for myself. When in reference to poor timed loads.Wasted time.short runs.Missi told me we don't have 5 or 600 mile loads available.nor 900,nor more.those are for teams.I told corporate persons.I will be turned down by missi.Which has nothing to do with my proffessional skills.but her/his attitude with me because corporate said they can give me as an Experienced Driver.Top pay.Which didn't happen because Columbus screwed with my info.Top Miles.Columbus screwed with my miles. Then let me sit in upstate New York.Well Here comes Lawsuit Columbus. And I have one of the top ten lawyers in the nation, who sued Crete on my behalf and won.Its your turn Columbus Terminal.Simply Put Those that are in authority positions at swift Columbus,oh.You are PATHETIC.

Another not so good story..after my dad left swift..My dad had a friend that did 11 western states..he was in AZ..having repairs done..well I guess his truck was out for the count..so he got a fairly new truck..he had a flat load..empty to pick up a load in Wy. But was called back..a driver in Mississippi dumped his truck and trailer on the side of the road..left it their walked off the job..the trailer was going to the Oxided Corp..in Sumner Washington.

well the BL was still in the truck..it said OK TO GO- NOT A HAZMAT LOAD..

So he hooked up to it..and went through all ports of enteries..with a high hazmat load..not know it was..the BL said empty plastic batteries new..so he passed 24 weight stations with a hazmat..when he got their..to Washington..the Zdock master asked where his hazmat placards were. he siad he didn't need any because the BOL..side none hazmat..the doc master asked if he loged off yet..he said no..the state police were called..on the qual- com..the driver manager said..ok to go not a hazmat load..the state police photoed it..then swift contacted him told him to drive the tractor only to Portland Oregon to the swift yard..for a load..he knew what was up..so he did go there ..took his time showed up at 2 am in the yard..the security guard said that they were waiting for him..that he needs to turn in his truck..well the guard was real old dude..so asked to eat..nothing..so he told the guard..he was going to take the truck and get something..he said ok..and loged him as their..he drove all the way back to california non stop..14 some hours..kept no log nothing..then dumped the truck in Fresno swift yard..swift fired him after the hazmat load..they will do you like that all they care about is the load..thats all..hope you don't subject your self..to it..please

Hi. I was looking into becoming a truck driver..and was told by some friends that swift had a there own school in California..

When i told my dad this..he owns his own trucking company now..he got mad at me..He said that he went through swift school..got his lic in 4 weeks.. but had to wait 6 months for a truck out of Lathrop Ca...So he got a direct e-mail to Jerry Moise. Sent him and e-mail to what was going on in Lathrop Ca. the day that Jerry got that e-mail..the day my dad got his truck..all new students get *** trucks FLD's my dad got a 2004 Columbia 70 double ..200 thousand miles on it a baby straight from AZ delivered..

and 2 administrators.. lost there jobs and some driver managers/ so then he said that the whole 2 years he had to drive..he was treated like ***..he was sent to St. Hellins for a paper load..sat there 2 days..waiting for a load that wasn't for him..the new driver manager sent him their..then drove to Oxnord Ca. to proctor & gamble same thing..when e-mailing jerry back to complain..the email was changed..

he then was told to drop his trailer their and bob tail it to Fontana Ca..to pick a load going to Santa Fe NM for kraft..so he took the load..when he got their..2 pallets were out of date old..he had to travel back to Fontana Ca. with out mile pay..when he got their..he cleaned out the truck..turned in the keys and left on a bus back home..I'm surprised they still are in business..they should be out of business..anyone want what happened to him happen to you..it's your call..but read every post here..they are making this up..they will ***...

ARE THERE ANY HONEST TRUCKING COMPANIES IN AMERICA OR ARE THEY ALL A BUNCH OF CROOKS SCRWING MONEY OUT OF PEOPLE IN A RECESSION?

I went through the same thing u guys went through and now I'm trying to regain my license.. Swift is no good if you can avoid this company please do so...

I'm looking to suit...

cause this isn't right for them to do this to hard working men and women that's looking for a better career. :(

Guest

First off I dont believe you lost your license because of an investigation on SWIFT. You MUST take a WRITTEN test, AND ROAD TEST at the DMV itself by DMV people.

The DMV is the one that decides if you PASSED both. And you did have it already for over a year, so there shouldnt be any problems. Once you HAVE it, THEY have to PROVE it was obtained illegally. If it was, then your license would be cancelled.

As well SWIFT does bi weekly DMV checks on all its drivers to make sure their licenses have not been cancelled or any tickets that need to be taken care of. The road test game is a SCAM anyways. You have to prove to the DMV you can operate the type of vehicle you are taking a license road test for anyways, then after you apply to a company, you have to take it again. The RECENT 2 years experience game is also a scam.

You just get your license and they tell you come back when you have experience even thought the DOT states that EXPERIENCE MEANS taking a road test by your states DMV. Its all a GAME, and in the end, it is YOU who must learn the laws, and it is YOU who must take care of YOUR license.

Slow trucks are a road hazzard

jerry moyer turned down his fleet due to the price of fuel. now all trucks are governed at 62mph.

this makes good business sense but it is not only a pay cut to drivers but a hazard on the road and obstructs the natural flow of traffic on all highways and interstates.

It is no wonder that there are so many accidents involving swift trucks which doesn't save money or property. With a fleet as large as swift transportation and the poor training received by students at the swift driving academy more needs to be done about the safe operation of these large trucks.

Heck I am an owner now and I drive slower than I ever did as a company driver. I average 58 now.

And my fuel mileage average is 6.3 Yeah that sucks but I get that doing heavy haul. 105000 pounds screws up you mileage big time. Most of the trucks in this fleet get 5.3 so im doing great comparatively speaking. Had a wierd week where I ran a 48 foot 2 axel refer 1400 miles.

did it at 58.

got 8.2 loaded to delivery , and pulled it back empty and got 9.7 mpg on that trip. woah Never thought my truck could manage that

OK yall. It seems to me that alot of yall missed the point I was trying to make.

Ive driven trucks that would do 100+. doesnt mean I did it. slow and steady is the best and safeist way to go. ALWAYS .

Im just glad no one ever ran into the back of me. I dont get tired of watching out for someone who isnt paying attention behind me, it just takes some of the fun out of a very enjoyable job. for all the weiners who complained about my blog " I dont really care what you think" so go wine to someone who does!!!

Again the point was a road hazzard. I hope you get behind me when Im trying to pass someone, It could take 30-45min.

Guest

and what does less money for driver mean,at swift most of the loads you have plenty of time to get them there.3 more miles an hour only gets you 33 more miles in an 11hr period.AND T-RIDER IS RIGHT hurry up and get there nobody gives a *** out here anymore

Swift needs to open thier eyes

At one time I considered Swift Transportation to be one of the best places to work, but I quit in June 2008 as I got tired of the petty management they have in place. As my last terminal manager stated "Swift is a non-union company and it makes no difference how long you work here, your treated the same" To some this may sound like a good thing but to others such as myself it is a slap in the face. If you do not brown nose with the young managers or you are over 55 years old your goose is cooked. They will hire someone of the street with no experence in the trucking industry and promote them to driver manager, they take people who have a heck of a problem understanding logs or get involved in accidents and promote them to safety manager positions, Swift is a case of the harder you work the further behind you get and the lazier you are the better chance for promotion you have. Is it any wonder that Swift has to count the number of paper clips you use in order to cut cost. When they wake up and find out that not all thier managers are the good little mormons they appear to be, and Swift gives credit for time in the company I and a few hundred X employees might want to return.

The difference between Swift and other companies is simple..Other dont claim to be "best in class" and then continue to run things into the ground. The culture at Swift is one of anomosity and despair. Actually I feel bad for the DMs..They have a 10am meeting that reminds me of a telemarkers boiler room pep meeting..Grown people doing claps and blowing horns..Very very sad..Jerry Moyes should be ashamed his legacy is laughable..Someone needs to get a "Sack" and do something..Stocking is a girl with his head up his ***..

Guest

Bert is correct. No trucking company is without issues even if they claim to pay better or offer more home time. -All B.S. that recruiters pitch to fill seats.

Eventually, you'll find something not to your liking and complain about them too. That's human nature and true about any industry.

Also, don't always believe what your told, or read online. You weren't there or part of the drama to start with.

There are lots of stories about not getting paid, or getting fired, or some other issue. Granted, it does happen. But not any more-or-less than in other industries.

Look, 90% of the result can be blamed on how much you contributed to the issue to start with. Step-up and own it.

Besides, you do have an option: Just go work doing something else and see if you like that any better? There it is.

I wouldn't worked at a company for 20 years and be treated like ***. There are other companies out there.

I've been there for 20 years too and while some of the things you say are right, the threats are wrong.

For one, they don't fire people for idling normally (like during your 10 hr break) but they do say something about it. If they started firing people for idling reasonably, they'll have OSHA on their *** again or have civil lawsuit filed against them.

Guest

As a side note more drivers need to know why companies offer layover pay, you know the $50 for sitting for a day. In most states you cannot file back unemployment.

You must file the day you have no work. Well in trucking that could be 12-hrs or 72-hrs so to discourage drivers calling after 24-hrs with no freight they say they will give you $50. The companies unemployment insurance would skyrocket if every driver called in every time they sat 24-hrs without pay.

If they don't pay at 24-hrs you better call unemployment if they have not authorized your layover. Or you very well may sit a week and only get $50 and you cannot call unemployment at the end of the week.

Guest

I was a mentor at Swift 2 years and was not surprised when the school in Memphis, TN was raided a few years back. If they can cheat you out of your pay they will.

Every comment on here about incompetent managers is 100% correct.

Their computers are programmed to give load priority to new hire drivers that only make .26 a mile. If you made it long enough to receive a raise then you will not be getting the miles.

Guest

Hey joe, if it's so bad...why have you been there 20 years? afraid of change or something? I'm just wondering

Quit my job to go to swift after being "APPROVED"

On the THIRD day of orientation, I was told they decided my work history was not good enough for them to hire me. I was told by my recruiter my application was approved and set up for orientation.

I am now unemployed. This happened in the denver terminal, Kevin Parks, Steve Cox, these are the culprits, be VERY AWARE. I complained all the way to the top of swift recruiting in phoenix and still was told this was a legitimate reason for not hiring On THE THIRD DAY of orientation. They had my work history from day one of the application process and I was told that it was approved.

Stay clear of trucking altogether if you still have a chance, trucking ruins drivers lives, the office jobs might be ok, but drivers lives are ruined, my work history has many jobs yes, but its because of how drivers are treated not because im a bad worker or anything else, I have i million accident free miles. TRUCKING RUINS LIVES.

I dont know who Kevin Parks is, But Steve Cox the terminal manager had nothing to do with you going home with no job. He's more than happy to hide in his office and not be involved with drivers at all and to let office personnel deal with their own issues and keep him out of it even when he should be involved.

Denver terminal as a whole is very unprofessional and they refuse to fix problems. Its all very "you cover my *** and ill cover yours". They are so woefully lacking in professionalism that Cox had to send out an email to the office personnel about *** and to stop it. And good luck moving up as a driver into a dedicated position or into the office.

Nepotism runs rampant, hiring on the sons of Steve cox and the shop manager for the dispatch window then grooming them for driver managers as the spots become available.

The same thing happened to me at US Xpress. I was driving a *** truck that kept breaking down at swift & they would just give me another bad truck so I quit & went to us xpress.

The recruiter put me through *** to get an accident report from 28 months ago that I had in my car. The accidents fall off after 3 years. Anyway us xpress waited till the END of the 2nd day orientation to decide they couldnt use me becasue of the 28 month old accident I had long before I even got a cdl. What I think it really was the new accident I had just had at swift & didnt tell them about.

But they didnt bring that up. So basically since I didnt tell them about the new one they used the OLD one which they said was OK. So turcking companies lie just as much as the drivers. but if I had took leave of absence from Swift I wouldn have went back & STILL HAD MY TUITION REIMBURSEMENT!

Freaking us X press.

Then Swift fired me 2 months later as well. Had 2 more preventables when i got back :) Freaking new York!

Everybody else is either an *** or dont really care period. Safety comes across as ok. But they HAVE to be *** sometime just cause thats, well what a safety person does.

I used to run out of that terminal & would try to stay near Richmond, va terminal becasue they were nice, they did their work in a timely manner, & if u had a concern Richmond took care of it with no lip! So Avoid Jonestown, & Greer, Sc & go to richmond!

As far as Swift

I have worked for Swift for 6 yrs. I make a decent living, have good benefits, and am on a dedicated route where I am home every night and 2 days off a week.

Yes, there are some problems. Swift is a very large company but they do respect ppl who want to be professional drivers. The shop is a contract shop so the quality of the mechanic's may be questionable.

They are like any large corporation, they want ppl who can do the job and get it done without making waves. I do my job, get paid, and know that I (nor anyone else) is indispensable.

So, anyone considering employment with or any large corporation should realize that you there to make money for the company and yourself-and if you can't do the job-you are out.

What I think is hilarious is the "Devoted Driver" who praises Swift is a Flat Out Liar. Let's just say this was a factory assembly job we were talking about here.

You would have those who have their noses caked with their bosses excrement all of the time because that is where they are comfortable and secure. It is all they know how to do. Then you would have those who actually look at the job for what it is. It has a certain procedure to get the assemblies done and once you know how to do it then it is the same old thing day in and day out.

The trucking "industry" changes all of the time, but the ONE constant is the law that you have to follow set forth by the FMCSA. Your responsibility to that is paramount over ANYTHING that Swift wants you to do. There is no choice for you. That being said, here is why there a few drivers that "like" Swift give it their praises.

The FMCSA under the DOT rarely does actual audits of Drivers Hours themselves. They let the Companies (through their Safety departments) do the driver audits themselves. It's kind of an "honor" system. The FMCSA does not have the manpower to do the audits.

So, what Swift does is like what any other "human powered entity" would do, THEY CHEAT. And here it is, As long as you follow their "Planners" plans for you then they will give you what they think you can do and they will push that to the very limit of your time if they can. If you have time issues then they want you to send a Macro 22 to tell them what is wrong and then "they" decide if it's a good reason or not. New Drivers are put through a gambit of different loads because they want to test you .

Its really a very *** process but it works for them because (This is not a personal disrespect to anyone out there) they hire "anyone" with an IQ level above 4. And I am really sorry that sounds so bad and I do not want to offend any of you but it is the truth, Swift knows that that they can get any driver to drive at least "some" miles before they get frustrated enough to quit, And that is OK with them because there are plenty of Government Sponsored drivers who got their training for free or they went through a program that allows them to pay back a company sponsored training package. OTR driving is really not for everyone. Swift also pushes you to drive at any hour day or night, Most drivers know how to establish a "working style" as they put it.

It is simply a matter of when you start your book every day. The point here should be obvious, Swift has a "few" good DMs, FMs, dispatchers, etc. The rest don't really have a clue. You can actually "see" the turnover rate if you just look at the terminals.

Yet that system allows Jerry to just rack up the profit. Business wise for him, it is smart. And "yes" you can make good money if you follow all of their orders, That is until the FMCSA does a "random" audit of your logs themselves. And if they find you have been violating even in the least, then guess who loses the license or has a suspension?

That's right, YOU. And Swift has absolutely NO responsibility to that. ONLY YOU. I have been a driver for them now for 5 years and I can tell you that everyone in Phoenix Corporate knows my name and all of the planners hate me.

But they won't fire me, even "I" wonder why at times. I always set my own PTA and I always accept loads only if they fit "well" within the time frames for delivery, I don't allow the razors edge. I allow myself extra time for things like scaling, showering, wait time at live loads and live unloads, driving routes, heavy loads that take longer, etc. and yet I maintain the "gold" rank at least.

I don't care to push it past that myself. So the bottom line is that you can trust the Desk jockeys or trust yourself. I trust me before anyone else ANYTIME. And here is another little tidbit, That "Happy at Swift" person on here, Is really a Planner or DM who is trying to make him/herself sound like a happy driver.

Swift is overflowing with Liars and Cheats like "Happy at Swift". TRUST NO ONE THERE, TRUST YOURSELF and you'll do fine.

Bill Xas

I retired with 28 years driving. I took some time off in the 90's and had to go through the school, and drive for Swift for 2 years.

I never had any issue with my first 2 DM's. The last one was hired with no experience and given one of the most productive fleets Denver had. In very little time she had all our miles in the gutter. She had been a driver for Navaho and wouldn’t take any help from the experienced DM, because she knew everything, just ask her.

When I quit because of weeks of under $3.00 checks, she tried to tell the FM (who was my old DM), that I quit to take care of my sick wife. I think she did that to take the heat off her for loosing a good driver,( Not my words, but my FM’s). I turned a resignation letter even though Swift says that is not necessary. I documented everything, and it saved me.

I ended up retiring from a little company that knew you by name, not number. My FM always remembered my anniversary, wife’s birthday and always made sure I was home for it. Stuff like that is important to me, it isn’t for everyone, I know. I had a nice run to CA and back to Denver, so I could be home every 3 days.

I also liked having a truck that would do the speed limit if I wanted to. My Kenworth was such a nice truck with a big sleeper. My pay didn’t vary as much and I averaged around $1700.00 a week. Not exactly a CEO paycheck, but not bad either.

I personally am glad I left Swift.

I would have never left if I could have kept either of my first 2 DM’s, but the 1st one went to be FM, and the 2nd went to Knight. I am glad that the last one helped me make the decision.

Guest

also for the haters out there I wanted to add some good info... If you know what you' re doing you can max about 660 miles a day in these trucks without causing yourself any dot problems... which comes out to about 4600 miles in 7 days...gotta you'll have to do a restart quick if you run that hard but it can be done

so you are a Jerry suck. You just to blind to see what going on.

I work 3 years as a company driver.

Then I went owner op. there was when I just about pay off my truck they cut my miles so that I have to give up my truck so that they can resale it again.

Guest

I recently did 5.5 weeks as a trainee driver. I didn't go through the trucking school, I just took the tests at the DMV and took my driving test with a third party tester.

With that being said. I got hired on at Swift, went through three days of orientation at the Denver terminal and hit the road with my mentor.

Everything with Swift business wise went pretty much the way they said it would so I can't really complain there. My mentor was a real nice guy, he could have showered more often but I lived through that part.

We never had to argue, we never had problems respecting each other or anything negative in that sense. Of course I did my part as a safe driver and didn't get us into trouble while he was sleeping either. Most of my problems with swift lie in the terminal. the bathrooms were nasty at every terminal I went to, even my mentor didn't want to stay at terminals.

The drivers lounge always smelled bad and I couldn't even bring myself to shower in them. Also the truckstops across the country were hit or miss, mostly miss. Restrooms that smell seriously like the zoo! So anyway it wasn't that Swift was so bad, although it would make mad when I hadn't been home in 3 weeks and they make work in a far off city doing local work for a week.

But my problem was more I just wasn't tough enough to only see home 2 days a month just to use nasty dirty restrooms and eat bad food cause I'm not an owner operator that's allowed to go the store. So my hats off to any one who is able to do the OTR thing, the OTR program at Swift was not for me.

Swift Transport complaint

I was trying to get a job at swift in 2007 and I passed everything, but the eye test. They didn't tell me at that time that I can drive a truck. So they assumed that I was fine with the right eye being 20/200 with glasses, so they told me to go to the DMV at get your driving permit and come back to them. Well, in the mean time I did go to the DMV and they said that I can't pass the eye test, I MUST meet the 20/40 regulations to pass! So as I was very pissed I went back to Swift, and gave them a piece of my mind, and told them off that they have no right to just hide the fact that you don't care about your employees! I went to the Better Business Bureau and told them about Swift Transport Trucking! I am telling people not to go with Swift, they don't care about you at all, if you have problems, just go to the BBB and complain, and get it on TV and Newspapers!!!!

I leave on June 13th to attend orientation, and on the 16th I head out with my mentor. All I have to say is that the company has been great to me and if you are considering working for Swift don't listen to all of the complaints, find out for yourself.

You're a *** blind ***! You should know you have to be able to see you *** dumb ***! If you hadn't jacked off so much you wouldn't have went blind!

Swift Transportation

i have read alot of the stories here, i too have been thru alot with swift so to say, i started the accad. in kansas city in nov. 06 during this time i was told i would get christmas home with famliy, i had to go to the hospital one evening for my face being swolling they told me i had an absested tooth and was admitted the next morning the dentist came in and noticed it was draining he told me "if u would have waited another day u would have been blind and deaf on ur left side" then they wanted to remove me from the school for missing a half a day (my instructor came and got me) he also stood up for me along with the range instuctor saying it would not hurt me one bit (and didnt) i spent christmas in the motel i had some chicken paties and the guy down the way had some mashed potatos we teamed up and had a christmas dinner when it came to new yrs we (students) were invited to a party with the instructors by the guy that ran the school we got to the party where we were promissed food and punch and we got told "come back and u can have what we dont use"

MENTORSHIP - jan. 07 - mar. 07

this part was almost great i loved the guy i was with he showed me the ins and outs he had been with swift for 9 yrs (god bless him) and was a company driver great guy up to this time i had rode a gray hound a total of 22 times between school and trying to get a mentor i could never get the lady that was supose to be in charge of me to answer the phone or qualcomm messages (that was a drag)

SOLO DRIVER - mar. 07

things started out ok so to speak i learned the "system" from my mentor so i was friends with saftey and stuff (helpful) on my second trip out my transmission went out on sandstone moutain during this time i found out from the tow truck driver (the wobbling i had prev. complained about to the shop) the drive shaft was loose and he didnt have to have a wrench to remove the bolts they were less then finger tight once at the dealer (volvo) i found out that swift had replace the radiater when the truck hit a deer (before i got it) and didnt hook up the transmission coolant lines correctly causing the gears to weld them selves together (this was at 168,000 miles on this truck) later the driver manager refused to boost the out of route mileage i had a 322 mile trip that was really 456 and he wouldnt change it they refused to pay me back for the cabs to get to the grey hound station and back (to get a loaner truck) later i join a dedicated route (P&G) and new (second) DM this was a great thing then my new DM went back to his planning job

Third DM

she ran the P&G fleet with a few otr's during this time miles started to drop i was doing local work for he bargined .34/mi. i took (famliy leave act) due to my fiance having our second child i got a letter in the mail saying that i quit and i owe them money i rejoined swift within the 30 rehire period i lost my dedicated route and found out that my DM quit

Forth DM

he was ok (i guess) i ended up losing a wk. of running cause i went to get a b-service (oil change) done and the found some loose hoses and a half flat tire i fixed the hoses and went in and asked them to fix the tire and id be on my way they refused and told me (come back and see us in 4 days) i called on-road services and they told me its cheaper to have it done there well it ended up costing me and my famliy 7 days down and swift refused to pay me back for over $200 in motel fees

so i started looking for another job well i got word one day that they needed their truck back cause i was at risk for abanding it, so i accepted my last load towards the house (indianapolis, in. - springfield, mo.) i was 100 mi. north of indy and got this load it was a load from columbus, oh. to iny with a drop in indy then drop it in the drop yard i had been fired already and still doing pittly stuff they refused refused and refused to let me have that load :( i got back home to missouri 4 days later (indy to st. louis, mo.) NO JOKE thats really how long it took well i got home and got my stuff out of the truck and they wanted me to run a load back to kc, kc. but ended up leaving me stranded in st. louis 80 miles from home i had to have my mom come out of illinois and take me down home my whole famliy hates swift and has pulled their bussiness from swift, i hope fed D.O.T. shuts them down i found out that swift shut down their Kansas City, mo. school, this school was by far a asset to swift with 3 instructors alone having over 100 yrs expir. i was angry they should have fire the guy that ran it not everyone well they starting shipping the students to memphis, tn. and now no one can get a cdl there so now i guess all they have left is phoenix and maybe richmond but anyways

MY ADVISE TO SOMEONE LOOKING AT SWIFT

think about what ur doing and make sure ur famliy isnt counting on a paycheck each and every week swift cheats their employees and customers they think about how much money can we make today u cant idle ur truck at all they dont have anone in a shop that cares about keeping their trucks going it was a bad expir for my famliy and i

I agree i think everybody that is complaining are bad drivers and dont like doing what there ask

Wow, I can tell that Bronco and Iggy those types that hang out at the terminals going from driver to driver looking for something to snitch about. I wrote a piece for/about Swift Company Drivers a few months ago to try and help them document problems when they have them.

It is very difficult to cover all of the areas that can have an adverse affect on you from very poor Swift management. Depending on the Terminal you are based out of, you could have decent management or you could have complete *** When you are stuck with the latter then you have to utilize docmentation to make sure you are not victimized. Remember that no matter how they dress them, DM's are really just dispatchers. They have NO real managerial powers.

They cannot make any key decisions withot the approval of a real manager. So, in essence, if you are having that kind of problem then documenting and naming names is how you overcome that kind of bad management. But don't just write your complaints out and run to management with them. Take some time and build your case.

DM's are hired a dime a dozen just like drivers are. They are trully classified the same way drivers are. Their pay vs. hours worked is about the same when you do the math.

So just remember that as you go along. Making your job a little easier is a very simple task. Do most of your company business after hours and away from your DM. Ignore a bad DM as much as you can and the company will purge them like they do a trully bad driver.

Learn what "your" responsibilities really are and stick to them. There is always a way to make a job in a corporation work for you while still being productive enough to make your money.

i have drove 4 them since 1998 when there school was at cti in murfreesboro all i can say is get your 1 year and go someplace else.somewhere along the line swift has forgotten that they are a trucking co.and now think that they are just a BIG copration. you know things are getting bad when they say you cant have a freightliner unless u r a team or a trainer i neither just a solo driver with 13 years they dont keep loyaity in high reguards at swift

Guest

ask yourself a question; if swift is so great then how do you think they got thereselfs in so much trouble with the tennesee dmv a few years back when they were paying off examiners to pass students and issue cdl\'s to people that were\'nt qualified; a lot of people got screwed in that process and so swift changed there school policy to where you now have to go to your domicile state and take the skills test and no more meal assistance, or anything else that use to be included in the school financing; do yourself a big favor and go with CRST; there the only ones taht have a decent training package that\'s not going to rob you everyweek on tuition repayments; there school is free with an 8 month commitment. any questions holla back at me here. good luck amigos.

Guest

if going thru training you'll be in a roach motel with 3 roommates that will go thru you're stuff when you go out to eat; try getting some descent sleep in a room with 3 strangers; take at least 8 to 900 dollars with you for the three weeks you'll be in tennesee to eat on and everything else you'll have to buy; good luck you'll need it.

Guest

Agree with you mike7608.You have to do your homework before choosing a trucking company to train with,if you are a new driver.Could always do worse with the Swift of reefers:CR England. That carrier is notorious for its poor record in the driver retention dept.

Ignore comments from Swift lackey-corporate hacks like Bronco who believe Swift is positively perfect.NOT!

Somebody must like the place or nobody would work there-most just need a job like anyone else. I think Swift mgmt sucks NOT their drivers. As I have always stated-critical of the company not those who want to work there. It's your choice driver.I don't listen to company cheerleaders, like Bronco, from any carrier.

Guest

sure sure we consider that the company is great ,yeah!! ...well it is a grea compnay BUT after many years is very sad to see a fellow driver walking away after many years in his pocket dedicated to sacrifice and been there for the company for which the company have to change a little the laws of accidents ,incidents ,apointments and more they messure a rookie with a driver with experience their law says is the same , one O/O with a daycab in the city who is in the line of fire every single day sorry for all the dedicated goodd driver that Maybe ,maybe Mr .Moyes doesn't know why the company is loosing good ,goooood drivers that after many years all they say is nothing but a tear.....thanx 2 u all

Guest

was a trainee for swift barely in third week of training... every check I only get back 250 bucks...

instead of the 450 minus the tax. swift is full of *** and keep changing mentors on me. I quit and got a local trucking job and make 1800 net every pay... way better than swift and I'm home at 3:30 every day.

if your too dumb to research other jobs before signing to swift. than you belong with swift.

Guest

I have had 2 job in my life, both in the machining industry,I was recently layed off at previous job of 25 years,I am planning taking the driving academy thru swift.I would like like to hear some of the positive comment about swift trans.I feel that if you do job right for any company they will do you right,I intend to make the third and last job that I will work before retiring. From what I am hearing the good far out weights the bad.Hope to get to meet some of the honest and hard workers out on the at some point or another.

Guest

If you think Swift is a cheat, try working for C.R.England.They are masters at robbing drivers,They invented highway robbery. You drivers better not leave on bad terms with Swift or they will bury your driving career with your DAC report.

Don't let some lying two faced D/M

force you to quit, chances are they are on their way out the door and

want to take as many drivers with them as they can.Don't let your situation and your temper get the best of you.Be smart and think twice

before you make what might be a career ending move.Good luck and God Bless

Driving for swift and loving it. Going home when I want and making good money.

What more could you ask for? :)

Look folks, it's trucking and not NASA space science. Every Co.

has it's issues including bad personnel. I've worked for good companies and lousy ones. The good ones let you do your job with little over-sight, and pay you what you're entitled to. They operate decent equipment and you get home when requested.

The bad ones usually do the opposite. As some commentators suggest, be glad you're working and building a resume whether you stay in trucking or move-on to something else. Overall, it's

a career that's better than a lot I've had to endure.

Get over it and move on... :cry

Guest

how often did you and your boyfriend *** while on the road. at shift change only or what?

Guest

I really need a job and hearing something positive makes me feel better aside from the depressing negative reviews.

Thank you for letting us know the good things about Swift than about the bad or "made up" things about Swift sent from other people. I am going to Swift in July and am seriously looking forward to it.

I drove for *** Simon in 98 and gotta say, I really miss doing it. Thanks agin for the good say and wish others would do the same.
